April 12, 2011

Tuesday, April 12, 2011, 3:30-5:00 pm
SafeFutures Youth Center (6337 35th Ave SW Seattle, WA 98126)

90’s Upheaval is a youth activist organization against police brutality. We have organized a school walkout, rallies, marches, protests and now we’re holding a community forum! We’re going to explain what our group is and what we do, show videos of police brutality caught on camera, and have time for Q&A. Come to talk about problems you’ve had with the police/discuss police brutality and what we can do about it. Your voice is vital to the cause & we can’t do it without you!! (:

YOUTHSPEAKS SEATTLE: Poetry Slam Finals

March 20, 2011

Saturday, March 26, 7 pm
@ Town Hall (1119 8th Ave at Seneca, Seattle)

Every year, YouthSpeaks Seattle hosts a series of poetry slams with judges scoring writing and performance, Olympics-style – but the point is always the poetry. In this Final Slam, though, the stakes are great: Four to six young poets will make up the Seattle youth poetry slam team, which then has the opportunity to travel to the international Brave New Voices youth poetry festival and slam in San Francisco. This Grand Slam, hosted by Geologic of the Blue Scholars, is the culmination of the all-city Youth Slam Series, with 12 teen poets competing to secure a spot on the 2010 Seattle Youth Poetry Slam Team. The team will travel to the Bay Area in July to represent Seattle at the Brave New Voices International Youth Poetry Slam, featuring young poets from more than 70 different cities. Presented by Arts Corps. Advance tickets are $15/$10 youth, at http://www.brownpapertickets.com or 800-838-3006, or at http://Tinyurl.com/yssgrandslam; no one turned away at the door. info http://www.artscorps.org/news/slam.html
