March 07 2009, Seattle University held it’s first annual Break the Silence Conference.
Break the Silence is a student-led conference for members of the Puget Sound Region to explore and confront the culture of violence. The conference will examine the systematic ways in which people are subjugated and silenced within a culture of violence. This conference aims to provide attendees with the opportunity to develop strategies for addressing the pervasiveness of violence in our communities.
1. Through facilitated workshops, participants will increase their awareness and knowledge of the culture of violence
2. Through engaging dialogue and discussion, participants will build concrete strategies for addressing an array of issues related to the culture of violence.
3. Participants will develop strategies for mobilizing together further sustaining the resistance to the culture of violence in their communities.
