Creative Resistance: Confronting Legacies of Violence and Building Consent
Saturday April 24th 2010 @ Casey 500 (Seattle University)
Creative Resistance is a student-led conference for members of the Puget Sound Region to explore and confront legacies of violence. The conference will examine the ways in which systems of violence interrelate in order to maintain one another. Through art, self-healing, and self-determination, this conference aims to develop creative strategies and build collective consent for addressing the pervasiveness of violence in our communities.
Through facilitated workshops, dialogue, and artistic self-expression, participants will:
- Increase their awareness and knowledge of histories of violence and the impact today on our communities
- Explore the role of consent in all facets and levels of relationships
- Build concrete strategies for addressing an array of issues related to a culture which normalizes violence and undermines consent.
- Develop mobilization and movement strategies to further sustain creative resistance in our communities.
